First Seven Steps: Determine What Services You'll Provide

As you begin the process of determining the "business" of your running your business, you need to decide what type of services you'll provide. Learning what the major components of wedding planning are is key. I like to put wedding planning services into three major categories:

Consulting
Planning and Design
Coordination

Even before you create your service list or "packages", decide how you will offer these things to your clients. It's important to know what they are and how they relate to wedding planning. While most wedding planners offer all of these and most weddings require them, not all of them will be done by a wedding planner.

Here are some "quick hits" on the major components of wedding planning:

Consulting = Advice about weddings in general, how to hire key vendors and putting together a budget for the wedding celebration

Planning and Design = Creation of the overall look and feel of the wedding celebration, creation of the plan to produce it as well as securing the vendors to pull it all together.

Coordination = Wedding Production...creating the time and space to execute, implement and produce the actual wedding day

Take some time to think about these things and what you need to learn in order to be the best at all three of these.

What questions do you have regarding the packaging of your services? Leave a comment below and I'm sure I can help!

Next up: Will you "niche" yourself or offer a specialty?

Until then...

Aspire to Plan!
